Over 70,000 Attend Historic TC2000 Races in Buenos Aires

Historic TC2000 races returned to a Buenos Aires street circuit after a 13-year hiatus. Over 70,000 spectators witnessed Franco Riva's victory in the first round of the 2026 championship. The event marked a significant moment for Argentine motorsport and signals the start of a new era of investment and major races, including MotoGP and potentially F1.

In Argentina, motorsport is a huge passion, and we wanted to bring back street racing, this time in the south, an area we are valuing and investing heavily in," said Head of Government Jorge Macri, who attended the race in Villa Soldati and presented the trophy to the winner of the 47th Argentine TC2000 Championship.

The event began in the morning with the first weekend races: Matías Apuzzo won in Fiat Competición and Marcelo Ciarrocchi in Top Race. Before the main race, the national anthem was played, and three planes flew over the circuit, leaving white trails in the sky.

Macri also highlighted the investment in motorsport infrastructure in the city: "In 2025, one in five mass events took place in the south. Having a street circuit is very good for the entire motorsport community," affirmed the Secretary of Sports, Fabián "Chino" Turnes, alongside TC2000 President Alejandro Levy.

Six-time category champion driver Matías Rossi praised the event: "It was a different, very special event, and also a unique opportunity for those who love cars. Over 70,000 people attended the street circuit in the south of Buenos Aires this Sunday, where Franco Riva won the first round of the TC2000 YPF Energía Positiva 2026 Championship in a historic day for Argentine motorsport."

The race marked the category's return to a Buenos Aires street circuit after 13 years. "I think it's the only track of the year where people can be 20 centimeters away from a race car, that's marvelous".

"Today, with the works at the racetrack, we have recovered this proposal, for which we have worked for more than two months. Right next to us is the Oscar y Juan Gálvez racetrack, where we made a record investment of 108 million dollars and are renovating the pits, paddock, layout, asphalt, and all its technology."

"This is a great kick-off for what's to come: next year's MotoGP and the dream of Formula 1, which we hope will come true".

Throughout the weekend, teams and mechanics worked on preparing the cars, while drivers and technicians toured the circuit to study every detail of the layout before the track activities.

In addition to the race, the public enjoyed the Fan Zone with Formula 1 simulators, exhibitions of classic cars and motorcycles, race car replicas, an exhibit on the history of the Buenos Aires racetrack, a beer garden, gastronomic proposals, and games for children.

In the paddock, a crane lifted groups of 20 people up to 30 meters in height on a circular platform to observe the circuit from above and take photos.

"Buenos Aires is the most beautiful city in the world and always offers great attractions for residents and tourists. We want to continue promoting the south with entertainment, shows, and in this case, motorsports. The 2.509-kilometer layout combined General Roca and Escalada avenues with a section of the Parque de la Ciudad, allowing cars to exceed 250 kilometers per hour on the main 952-meter straight".

According to the Argentine News Agency, over 70,000 people followed the race for free from the public space located on Avenida Roca, in a day that included attractions, entertainment, and gastronomic proposals for families.

The podium was completed by Emiliano Stang and Gabriel Ponce de León in a race that was decided in the final stages.

"We are very happy with the organization of the race, the category, and the people: 70,000 people came here to enjoy the party. A very nice and demanding race".

In turn, Emiliano Stang added: "It was a beautiful round, which treated us very well".
